Olympics!

Over the past 2 weeks, Room 14 have been learning about the Olympics. To mark the end of these Olympics we had a closing ceremony in our class where we made gold medals, stood up on the 'podium' and sang the National Anthem. Then we watched some highlights of the closing ceremony in Rio, and some Olympic highlights for us Kiwis. We are sad to see these Olympics end but we look forward to the next ones when we are Year 6!

Structures!

Our concept this term is Structures. We will mainly be looking at the structure of a narrative story and the structure of the art process, but as a hook-in activity we made our own physical structures. Have a look at what we made!

Making Matariki Lanterns!

Yesterday our buddy class visited us to help us make Matariki lanterns! Matariki is a celebration of Maori New Year which is based around 7 bright stars. In mid May the stars disappear and they reappear in mid June. Their reappearance is when Matariki starts. We made our lanterns using tin cans, and on each side of the lanterns we made 7 holes to represent the 7 Matariki stars. Thank you to our buddy class for helping us with the hammering!

Jump Rope for Heart!

We have been having lots of fun practicing our skipping for the Jump Rope for Heart skip-a-thon! We are raising money for both the Heart Foundation and the Meadowbank School covered court project. You can set up a profile online at www.jumpropeforheart.org.nz and follow the instructions below. Once you have done that you can send the link to family and friends to donate money to your profile. If we are the class that raises the most money then we win a skipping rope each, so lets get fundraising!!
Happy skipping :)
